Yellowbelly: Seafood & Tropical Drinks in St. Louis

Yellowbelly is the newest restaurant in St. Louis that is introducing a seafood and tropical cocktail concept to the dining scene. The restaurant is located in Central West End on Lindell at the corner of Euclid. Yellowbelly has a very open space with teal and white as their color scheme with a hint of yellow to accent the tropical theme. Their L-shaped bar seats up to 16 lucky patrons that will be able to peak into their kitchen where they are able to watch the magic as it happens.

The owners of Yellowbelly are Travis Howard and Tim Wiggins. If these two names sound familiar, it is because they are also the owners the popular gastropub, Retreat, which is also located in Central West End. The owners teamed up with Top Chef’s Richard Blais to create this unforgettable and new dining experience.

If I were living in St. Louis this would EASILY become one of my favorite places for happy hour. Yellowbelly’s happy hour is every day from 4 pm until 6 pm except on Saturday and includes bar bites, $7 wine, and $8 select cocktails. The Paloma is on their happy hour menu and is a tequila-based drink with grapefruit juice, lime, grapefruit soda, and salt. Outside of their happy hour, they have a robust cocktail menu. The majority of their cocktail program is rum-based to compliment their tropical theme. Their drink menu is broken down into three sections:

  • Old School Cocktails

  • New School Cocktails

  • Daiquiris

Old School cocktails include Mai Tai, Negroni, Old Fashioned, and my favorite Paloma. The New School cocktails include their signature Yellowbelly, Millennial Pink (highly recommended), and Hopes & Dreams. Yellowbelly also offers classic, passion-fruit, and snap pea daiquiris if you would rather something more smooth.

Yellowbelly’s food menu is blessed and curated by the talented Top Chef, Richard Blais, and is comprised of items such as Deviled Crab Fritters, Wu-Tang Clams, and their version of a more sophisticated In-N-Out burger with dry aged beef. Yellowbelly has platters that are meant to be shared with others such as Branzino, Porterhouse Steak, and the star of the show is the Tuna Prime Rib. Imagine two pounds A-grade ahi tuna!

At this time Yellowbelly does not allow for reservations, but you can use their Yelp profile and see what the wait is looking like and place yourself on a wait list. The dining scene in St. Louis has indeed elevated since I left over 5 years ago and Yellowbelly is a great addition!
