Top 10: Brunch In Brooklyn

Updated: 6/6/2021

Brooklyn is home to many greats such as Jay-Z, Biggie, Spike Lee, Basquiat, and some bomb brunch spots.  The options for brunch are limitless and there is something for everyone, and I do mean everyone (cutting my eye at you vegans and gluten-free peeps).  Let this list guide you to a new restaurant or revisit some favorites.

Mangoseed

Located on Flatbush Mangoseed provides you with all the Caribbean feels you need by serving everything from Jerk Salmon and Waffle to Coconut Fish and Grits.  They are reasonable in pricing, have covered outdoor seating, DJ, and bottomless for an extra $22.  Mangoseed has five different types of mimosas and a rum punch for you to enjoy for 90 mins of libation bliss.

Kokomo

This Williamsburg restaurant prides itself on offering a modern approach to the traditional Caribbean fare such as Rasta Pasta Flatbread and chicken and waffles served with a sorrel scotch bonnet sauce.

Chavela's

Franklin Ave is a sea of restaurants in Crown Heights but Chavela's does a great job of standing out with authentic Mexican food, excellent customer service, and the outdoor seating is a plus in any New Yorker's book.  Their brunch specials are capped at $13.95 and offer budget friendly brunch cocktails.  Their Campechana which is half sangria and half margarita is my favorite and probably everyone else who frequents there, and the pitcher is only $38.

SoCo

If you know me then you know I am extremely selective when it comes to soul food or southern comfort spots in NYC.  Luckily this restaurant in Clinton Hill did not let me down and exceeded my expectation.  They have bottomless specials on Saturdays only in which they typically have a DJ as well.  They are known for their Red Velvet and Buttermilk Fried Chicken and their Lobster & Shrimp Grits.  This is a reservation friendly spot, and I highly encourage making them.  They were just recently featured on Travel Noire's Top 50 Restaurants in the US and kudos to them because the dining experience they provide to their patrons is consistent.

Catfish

This Cajun/Creole spot has brunch DAILY and serving Country Fried Steak and Eggs, Creme Brulee Batter French Toast, and Catfish Po'boy.   I honestly cannot remember the last time I have seen Country Fried Steak on a menu anywhere in NYC since I moved here.  After eating all this comforting food that is going to have you loosening your pants.  I would recommend trying one of their Hurricanes or their Bloody Marys that include shrimp and crab meat to wash it all down.

Suede

Consistency is something that I consider to be very important for any restaurant that I am dining in.  I have been to Suede a handful of times and each time they always meet and exceeded my expectations.  Suede is located in East Flatbush and offers modern Caribbean food in a classy environment that is perfect for any occasion.  Their food will amaze you, the service will impress you, and the overall experience will have you coming back over and over.  Popular items on Suede's brunch menu include Salmon Crab Omelete, Coconut Crusted French Toast, and Chicken & Waffles (in the waffles they raisins that have been soaked in rum).  I can understand that East Flatbush can be a bit of stretch for some people, but be sure to check out their sister restaurant Caribbean Social which is more accessible via public transportation.

Sweet Chick

How could I NOT mention it in a brunch list for BK especially since there are two locations now?   I had Sweet Chick the first time I moved to 2014 the whole vibe adds to the experience.  From juicy chicken, great music playlist, and carefully crafted hip-hop cocktail menu this is MUST for anyone.  Nas is one of the co-owners of this establishment and has been a part of the growth that has allowed them to blaze a trail out on the west coast and back to him home in Queens!

Randolph

With many locations throughout New York City my favorite is in Williamsburg.  For only $41 you are able to get one entree and 90 minutes of unlimited booze which includes their brunch punch, bloody marys, mimosa, or beer.  Randolph does serve pretty healthy size portions to soak up all those bottomless drinks.  My menu recs include Challah French Toast, Eggs Benedict, and a killer Fried Chicken Sandwich.  They are great for large groups and I highly encourage making reservations to avoid a long wait.

Pies N Thighs

This Williamsburg spot is known for literally what they are named after and that chicken and pies.  You can expect a wait coming to this spot but I promise the wait is worth being able to dig your teeth in you their Fried Chicken Sandwich which is covered in honey butter and hot sauce.

Cheryl's Global Soul

One of the breakfast/brunch gems in Brooklyn, and is located in Prospect Heights.  Cheryl's gives you that mom and pops feels upon entering and you know you are in for a meal that is made with love.  Cheryl is truly a woman after my heart and pockets with this brunch prix fix that ranges from $13 - $15 and include a mimosa.
