I have spent two months testing out the Brava Oven, a smart countertop oven featured on every tech and food-related website. You have probably seen me on Instagram showing you some of this tech oven's features, and you are wondering what makes this oven different from all the other kitchen gadgets. Brava Oven makes home cooking simplified and consistent each time while cooking with light. I know what you are thinking; what type of sci-fi gimmick is Dom peddling? The Brava Oven uses six halogen lights to heat three different zones at up to three different temperatures. What does this mean? The ease of cooking an entire meal that includes three different items at once.

This review will share info about purchasing and pricing, how it works, what a day with the Brava Oven looks like, my likes and dislikes, and who this tech kitchen appliance is perfect for.

Purchasing, Pricing, and the basics

The Brava Oven is sold in three different tiers, with the number of accessories changing each tier's price. The base price is $1095, including the Brava Oven, TempSensor, glass tray, and metal tray. The next two-tier pricing includes additional items such as a loaf pan, muffin tray, or the Chef's Pan that allows for slow cooking. The TempSensor is the device that alerts the Brava’s system when a protein such as chicken, fish, or steak is done cooking.

As I mentioned earlier, the Brava Oven uses three halogen lights located on the top and three on the bottom to cook your food with light. The Pure-Light Oven™ technology has the ability to heat up in a tenth of a second and is the reason why the oven can cook your food faster or provide you with a nice sear. Brava comes with a host of bakeware accessories, but their website has a list of non-Brava cookware recommendations. The Brava Oven offers 7 different functions:

  • Sear

  • Toast

  • Reheat

  • Bake

  • Dehydrate

  • Air Fry

  • Keep Warm

The Brava Oven has a companion app found in Apple App or the Google Play Store. This app allows you to view recipes, control your oven remotely, and view the live camera feed. You heard me! LIVE CAMERA FEED! The kitchen tech gadget connects to wifi which is how it allows for weekly recipe and firmware updates.

Upon purchasing a Brava Oven, you will receive an onboarding Zoom meeting with a Brava expert that will walk you through ALL the functions and answer questions you may have. With the help of this Zoom meeting, skimming the video library, joining their Facebook group, and reviewing their online help section, I became a pro in no time.

A Day With A Brava

Let me take you through my day with the Brava.

Breakfast - Bacon, Egg, & Cheese on an English Muffin

Lunch - Ultimate Grilled Cheese

Dinner - Braised Short Ribs and Potatoes

Dessert - Apple Crostata

What I Enjoy ABOUT THE BRAVA

  • Cooking meals twice as fast

  • The consistency of the final product

  • The informative onboarding class

  • Saves counter space - Replaces multiple items in my kitchen such as my toaster, microwave, air fry, and etc.

  • Less clean up

  • Recipes updates weekly, which include some of my fav items at Trader Joe’s

What I Dislike ABOUT THE BRAVA

  • Not being able to alter recipes from the Brava library - If the recipe only calls for salt and pepper, you are only to use salt and pepper. For a spice queen like myself, this was a slight setback. I did speak with the Brava team, and they recommend adding your additional seasoning towards the end of the cook session. The Brava team reminded me that I am cooking with light, and the seasoning could draw additional light to certain parts of my food and possibly burn the meal. Remember that light is attracted to the dark.

Who Is THE BRAVA OVEN Perfect FOR?

  • Beginner or novice cooks

  • Compact kitchens (ME!) and studios

  • Meal prep

  • Individuals with very busy lives

Overall I have enjoyed my experience with Brava and recommend it to others if it suited their needs. When I initially received my Brava, I thought for sure it would become an item I would use for a month and then forget about it. It has been nice to utilize this smart countertop oven versus firing up my traditional oven. I have baked cookies, air fried chicken, made salmon, cooked a steak, and even popped in my orange chicken from Trader Joe’s. If you have questions, feel free to leave them in the comment section.
