Our/Vodka is a unique brand that has micro-distilleries throughout the world. Still, each location is unique by infusing the culture of the cities they are established in and using the local water distill their vodka. The distilleries are currently located in Berlin, London, Amsterdam, Miami, Los Angles, Detroit, and now New York. The New York distillery is making history by being the first distillery since prohibition in Manhattan. To give you a backstory, the ban took place between 1920 to 1933. It made the production, importation, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages illegal. Prohibition is the reason that by1925, over 30,000 speakeasies existed in New York City alone.

DESIGN

The local partner, Dave Ortiz, is a born and bred New Yorker and is the creative genius behind this location that is in the heart of Chelsea. After speaking with Dave, I sensed the passion of making Our/New York Vodka fully representative of the New York culture. From the layout of the bar, the materials used, to the painted masterpiece he created that wraps around the entire space. His artwork is a depiction of the opposite of what a New Yorker sees on their daily commute. At the top is grey that represents the sidewalk, followed by a lighter gray as the street, and then blue that represents the sky. I was pretty amused by this, seeing as New Yorkers we are typically looking down at our phone, and rarely do we ever look up.

DISTILLERY, BAR, AND HAPPY HOUR

The full bar inside of Our/New York Vodka gives you sneak peek into the distillery process in the back, and you are able to book a tour that includes a sampling of the 100-proof AfterDark label Our/New York vodka. Our/New York bar is open Monday - Saturday at 5 pm and happy hour is every day and includes specialty and signature cocktails, wine, and beer.
