Best Dumplings in NYC
New Yorkers have an obsession with dumplings! Could it be the good luck associated with them, the reasonable price, or just the variety of flavors they come in. Regardless of your reason, I got a round up of my favorite dumplings in the city.
Han Dynasty
From Philly to New York City Han Dynasty has brought the heat LITERALLY. This Philadelphia-based Sichuan restaurant has had multiple write-ups in Eater since opening in 2012 in the City of Brotherly Love. The dumplings are served in their signature chili oil which packs a nice punch! With multiple locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan it will be easy to get your hands on a bowl of their dumplings. Mimi Cheng's is owned by two sisters and created out of their love of their mother's dumplings. They are passionate about the ingredients used in their dumplings and source locally and use organic ingredients. Mimi Cheng's introduces a special dumpling each month where they sometimes collaborate with other individuals to create something magical that makes our stomach dance. In the past one of their most famous collaborations is with Pizza Love Emily.
Xi’an Famous Foods
What is Xi'an Famous Foods? Xi'an (pronounced she- ahn) is a fast casual dining establishment serving authentic Northern Chinese dishes. With 12 locations throughout New York City and being featured in New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Forbes. Although many people think of Xi'an for noodles FIRST, you cannot visit without trying their dumplings. For my vegetarian friends I recommend trying their Spicy & Sour Spinach Dumplings or if you do indulge in meat then check out their Spicy & Sour Lamb Dumplings.
C&L Dumpling House
This Chinatown establishment is where you don't come for the ambiance but to just get a good dumpling for an affordable price. Please don't let the lukewarm 3 1/2 star review on Yelp steer you away from this dumpling house. At C&L you can grab 10 fried pork and chive dumplings for only $3. These dumplings have more of a doughy exterior but the perfect amount of meat to balance it out. Thank me later for putting you on to this hidden gem in Chinatown.
